Fashion & Flick To Be Held Saturday, November 23rd

It was fall 2018. Summer was over and kids were back in school. Heather Ness from Corduroy & Pixie Dust was trying to come up with an idea to bring a fun activity to the Dells community while building additional awareness of her one-year-old downtown business. It was out of this brainstorming session Fashion & Flick was born.

Corduroy & Pixie Dust began working with the Dells Theatre to develop the idea of Fashion & Flick. They would have local children participate as models putting on a fashion show at the front of the Dells Theatre. People would come to see their children having fun on stage wearing the latest fashions. Then, when the fashion show ended, there would be a free movie at the theater.
The first show, which took place in November 2018, involved approximately 30 children modeling Corduroy & Pixie Dust clothes for nearly 250 friends, parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters. It was followed by a showing of The Grinch on the big screen which was attended by more than 200 people.

In April of 2019 Corduroy & Pixie Dust once again partnered with the Dells Theater for the second ever Fashion & Flick featuring more kids modeling clothes and the subsequent showing of the movie Dumbo on the big screen. Even the Easter Bunny made an appearance.

The spring Fashion & Flick added something not part of the November event, a fundraiser for Ellie Joy’s Closet. “Ellie Joy’s Closet is a program we started this spring to assist families in the area when there is a tragic event in their life.” Ness shared. “This can be a death in the family, loss of income, fire, flood etc. This is very personal to me and we have had amazing support from the community. Our Spring Fashion and Flick was the first event that we did a raffle to raise money for this cause. We had businesses and people donate items which ended up being 2 large raffle baskets and a kid’s raffle basket. We raised over $1500 and we have used these funds for several families in Dell Rapids, Baltic and Colman.”

As the one-year anniversary of the first Fashion & Flick rolls around, Corduroy & Pixie Dust and the Dells Theatre are preparing for what will likely be the biggest Fashion & Flick yet. On Saturday, November 23 at 12:30 PM the doors of the Dells Theatre will open and local children will once again model the latest in kids’ fashion for those in attendance. The fashion show will then be followed by a free, opening weekend showing of what is expected to be one of the hottest movies of the season: Disney’s Frozen 2.
What would a Frozen 2 event be without Elsa or Olaf? Thankfully we don’t have to find out. Both Elsa and Olaf will be making an appearance at Fashion & Flick leading up to the movie and they would love to say hi or take a picture with you or your children.

Like this past spring, Fashion & Flick will include a raffle for a wide variety of items donated by Dell Rapids and Sioux Falls businesses. Proceeds from the raffle will once again go to support Ellie Joy’s Closet. Some of the items included in the raffle are Washington Pavilion tickets, use of an Ace Hardware Inflatable, Papa’s Pub & Eatery gift cards, and a Pinz Bowling party, among other things. Raffle tickets are available to be purchased before the show at Corduroy & Pixie Dust and online at corduroynpixiedust.com. Winners will be announced on November 23rd, 2019 and there is no need to be present.

Corduroy & Pixie Dust will be open following the movie to wrap up the event with fun Frozen items and special promotions.
In Dells we are fortunate to have some great activities Downtown. Like Dells Downtown Trick or Treat and Christmas At The Dells, Fashion & Flick looks to be something fun for the kids in Downtown Dell Rapids this fall.
